The Pixie Haircut – Done!
In case you missed it, the long hair is gone.

I now have a (creepy) bag full of hair to send to Locks of Love. I kind of feel like adding “Donate hair to Locks of Love” to a life goal checklist just so I can cross it off.
OK, I’m doing it.
Donate Hair to Locks of Love! (Done, 10/23/12)
I love my hair. LOVE it. This is the most-drastic haircut I’ve ever had, but it’s also the most-planned haircut of my life. I usually stumble into whatever salon has an open chair and tell them to “trim it or… you know best… make it look nice.” This time, I went with a stylist I know and brought my iPad so I could discuss the merits of all the styles on my haircut Pinterest board.
Because I was donating the hair, it had to be sectioned off into small ponytails first so the shorn hair would be gathered together and usable. The Locks of Love site is adamant about these ponytails and I refused to lose that much length and then not be able to donate.
I have thick hair, it took eight small rubber bands to section off. Possibly the best moment I’ve ever had in a salon occurred shortly thereafter when the girl in the next chair turned to me, agape, as this wily orange octopus was liberated from my head.
Immediately, I knew I’d done the right thing. I loved the way it looked post-ponytail chop, before it had even been styled/cut evenly. It could only get better from there.
I don’t think a haircut has ever before brought me such joy. I love the way I look and, as cheesy as it sounds, I love the idea that my wedding hair is off to make someone else happy.

You kind of look like the Julia Roberts version of Tinkerbell from Hook.
Tell me I’m wrong.
He’s not wrong!
I hope Locks of Love uses your hair, someone will be lucky to get it!
I hope that’s a good thing…
I feel like being compared with Julia Roberts is always a good thing.
Definitely a prettier version of Julia Roberts. And faaaaaaar less irritating.
Your hair cut is ADORABLE! What a thoughtful thing to do… SOme child will be so lucky to get your hair…..Their pares\nts will be forever grateful! Just think how pretty that little girl OR boy will look…. and how GREAT they will feel having hair again….
Helena,
First off, your wedding hair was beautiful as was the wedding.
Secondly and what in this instance is more importantly, thank you, thank you for donating to Locks of Love. My dearest friend Laura (Peggy can tell you about her) lost her daughter just 3 weeks after Michelle’s 19th birthday to Ewing’s Sarcoma. Ewings is a very rare bone cancer which effects children. Michelle was 16 1/2 when she was diagnosed and after numerous rounds of chemo, radiation, a stem cell transplant, a lung resection (sp?) and finally a try with new medicine, Michelle passed away. Locks of Love supplied Michelle with the most beautiful wigs so that my Michelle could try and feel a bit normal after she lost her hair 2 different times. She is/was the most courageous person I’ve yet to know. When you’re ready for headbands again, visit http://www.headbandsofhope.org. Magically Michelle was created for my niece and her sister Amanda wrote a wonderful tribute to her.
The impact you have made on some child’s life may never be known to you but I can attest to the wonderful impact Locks of Love made on Michelle.
Thank you again, Nancy Kriescher
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend’s daughter. How awful. I’m glad Locks of Love was able to help her!
