Wisdom Wednesday: Olympic Take-Away

keep your eyes on your own lane

It can be hard to avoid the temptation to look around at how your competitors are doing.

Every time you turn your head, it slows you down. This might be more literal in Olympic sports like running or swimming where any sacrifice of aero- or aqua-dynamics could actually cost you gold, but it’s just as applicable to those of us who aren’t so sporty.

I use the term “competitors” as I heard this quote during the Olympics, but honestly, it’s easy to compare yourself to anyone – even, or especially, in some cases – your friends. Paying too much attention to what others are doing can be distracting and discouraging. Now that so much of everyone’s life is online, it’s quick and easy to see what everyone else is up to.

It can be easy to blur the line between being inspired and being overwhelmed.
