Green Smoothie Addict
If you follow me on Instagram (you should, I’m fun! I’m HelenaSweet), you’ve noticed my newest addiction:

I’m averaging one a day and tend to document (you know, for scientific purposes).
I’d gotten interested in the idea of green smoothies after seeing other happy imbibers on Instagram and Twitter. I looked up some recipes online, but found that generally, the rule is: Green of Choice + Fruit of Choice + Water. Your mileage may vary.
I’ve tried various Greens: Kale and Spinach are the friendliest in that they give color to the smoothie without much taste. You can pile whatever fruits your heart desires on top and get most of the flavor there.
Chard is decent, but takes sweeter fruits to keep it from tasting grassy.
Parsley was a huge fail. It’s in V8 juice, but it made my smoothie smell too herb-y. That, and I think I have an allergy, y’all, because my lips were all itchy afterward. Unrelated sidenote: I misspelled “parsley” in the 6th grade spelling bee and was out on the second round. I’ve clearly yet to let go of all my parsley-related issues.
Fruits: Here you can do whatever you want, in the quantity you want. The smoothies above feature blackberries, blueberries, mangoes, peaches, strawberries, grapes, bananas, cranberries, and pineapple. I just throw a handful into the blender and get going.
Water: I promise you that this is needed to get things moving in your blender. Otherwise, your blades just whir around and do nothing. You can use juice if you prefer. I just use plain ol’ tap.
This is such an easy way to get a dose of fruit and vegetables. If I was any more in love I may have to get a kale leaf tattooed on my shoulder blade.
Just kidding.
Maybe.

Im addicted to my green smoothies too!! some fun additions i have tried over the years are half an avocado (it makes it creamy) chia or flax seed (lots of health,no flavor) almond butter for protein (doesnt go with all fruits….i find it best with banana and spinach). And sometimes i put a half cup of gluten free oats for extra protein especially if im replacing a meal with it, but you have to like a lot of texture to do the oats thing! Happy blending
I’ve wanted to try oatmeal shakes… I need to look into recipes!
My suggestion, if you don’t mind dairy: kefir. It’s good for you, and it stays blended (I find water and juice don’t tend to stay blended with the fruit).
Love all your ideas. I tend to just do fruit, it’s nice to have some other suggestions.
Thanks for linking up to my Pincipe of the week! I will have to try these
