Headboard Chronicles

Remember a billion years ago when I said I loved upholstered headboards? Then, more recently, how we got a new bed? It would seem like it was all systems go on the new, tufty headboard, right?

I mean, I even ordered fabric swatches like I’m some kind of interior decorating superstar.

However, between then and now, I’ve come to some realizations: One, we have two cats. Two, our cats have claws. Three, our cats would likely shred an upholstered headboard and then I’d have to kill them (not really, don’t freak, but I’d be sad if I paid big bucks for something nice and the kitties turned it to crap).

So, headboard ideas, Round Two. I’m toying with some ideas:

Using a Screen:

Like, maybe, this one (or two, as our bed is king size) from World Market?

We could do all manner of fanciful screen, as long as we could open it kind of flat and affix it to the wall so the cats don’t knock it over and kill us in our sleep (which, actually, would be kind of ironic as I threatened their death earlier in this post).

Using a Gate:

You think I’m crazy, but how cool would this thing be hanging length-wise on the wall?

Or perhaps two of these babies, standing super-tall over your bed?

I’m a genius, I tell you. (Both gates pictured here are from Al Egypt Gift Shops)

Using Marquee Letters:

I’m a little obsessed with H’s and W’s. Look at this one:

Raw, industrial beauty. Little Fish Designs also sells versions that light up!

Awwwww, snap! Love it!

I’m still considering all things vaguely rectangular and hang-on-the-wall-able. I particularly love the idea of reusing something, so don’t be surprised if I find an old door in an alley and scrap all the ideas above.

  1. We are moving and get to redo bedrooms and the like (over time) and im loving your posts about decorating and your pin boards! Im fully obsessed with the light up letters!

  2. I saw an episode of Property Brothers on HGTV this week. An old door (6 paneled) was used as a headboard for the master “retreat”. I thought it looked amazing.

  3. I love these headboard ideas. The screen is gorgeous… but the letters would be great fun.
